The Trump MiG-21 is a nice kit as is the MiG-23 but both are older airframes if you want an "opponent" for something modern like the F-16. Personally, I'd put a MiG-29 next to an F-16 and an Su-27 next to an F-15 if I were matching them up for size and role. Yes the MiG-29 gets expensive if you want anything remotely accurate.
Its worth remembering that the French preferred the Jaguar over the Mirage V. They had both but the Mirage were only taken over from a IAF order cancelled on political grounds. And the Indian Air Force preferred the Jaguar over the Mig 27 keeping the Jaguar in low level production until I think 2005 for attrition replacement. Mar 7, 2010.
A single MiG-29 finds itself in a target rich environment where he does not really need to understand “who is whom”, since most probably everyone in the air is an enemy… (Vietnam air to air again and all the issues with using the AIM-7?). Consider that while the R-73 is a decent missile, the R-27 is roughly comparable to an 1970ies AIM-7.
The MiG-29A participated in air conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Eritrea, and Yugoslavia, although in the first three wars, it did not engage in combat with other fighters of its type. Instead, the MiG-29s pursued heavier and more powerful F-15 and Su-27 aircraft. However, the MiG-29 clashed with a fighter of the same weight class in one instance.
Range was initially a weak point with the MiG-29, and while later versions were modified to carry more fuel, the Russian air force prefered the larger Su-27 and its derivatives.
I kind of wish they applied similar letters to the MiG-29 as they did with the Su-27 and MiG-21/23 etc, as that would make differentiating them a lot easier. MiG-29/A for the 9-12 versions, and MiG-29C for the 9-13 and MiG-29S for the 9-13S. It's just easier to read, but I understand it is kind of fictional.
The MiG-31 "Foxhound" was developed as an off-shoot of the record-setting MiG-25 "Foxbat". The Foxbat was of a fast breed of aircraft, but agile it was not. It was an airframe built simply to intercept incoming aerial threats utilizing its own powerful engines, an equally powerful radar system and long-range missiles to achieve altitude, head
None. Operation Samurra was an operation by the Iraqi Air Force (IQAF) during the Gulf War to decisively engage McDonnell Douglas F-15C Eagle fighters from the United States Air Force (USAF) using Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 interceptors, and break the "wall" of F-15s that the Coalition had established along Iraq's border with Iran.
